到帕尔默本土的一升干啤

一路狂飙八百公里

与高速公路，

塔纳纳河，

跨阿拉斯加输油管道

齐飞

为免追加罚单

且隐去时速表上的数字——

那是北极的疾风，

冰川融水道的激流，

是输油管里汩汩喷涌的黑血，

还是马塔努斯卡冰川

融雪的流速？

矗立在塔纳纳河观景点

注目一条冰川巨龙

在辫子河道之间

摇摆着粗壮的腰身

和飘扬的马尾

滚滚波涛

快马飞向西北

汇入育空河

默默抚摸着

Racing Eight Hundred Kilometers

From the gold panning dish of Fairbanks

To a one-liter draft of local craft beer in Palmer,

Racing eight hundred kilometers all the way.

Flying abreast with

The highway,

The Tanana River,

And the Trans-Alaska Pipeline.

To avoid an extra speeding ticket,

I keep the numbers on the speedometer hidden—

Was that the piercing gale from the Arctic,

The torrents of glacial meltwater channels,

The black blood gurgling and surging through the pipeline,

Or the very speed of the melting snow

From the Matanuska Glacier?

Standing tall at the Tanana River overlook,

I watch a glacial dragon

Between the braided riverbeds,

Swinging its rugged torso

And its flaunting stallion-tail.

The billowing waves,

Like galloping horses flying northwest,

Merge into the Yukon River.

Silently caressing

The Wilds Preston Richardson Monument

And the interpretive plaque of the Gold Rush Women,

My mind, enraptured, wanders into

The wild dreams of overnight fortune.

In my stead,

You gaze into the distance

As the Northern Lights pour down

To baptize me.

Standing right at the center line

Of the Richardson Highway,

I command the blue sky, white clouds, glaciers, and polar gales

To pierce through me—

Through the double helix

Of my every cell.

Just as they pierce through

The bright purple fireweed,

The sky-blue forget-me-nots,

And the trumpeter swans, pure white all over.

Or like the wild antlers

Flares out by the caribou,

Flinging my heart wide open.
