Primary objectives:
To
identify and engage Bengali youth living in the Crescent Town
priority neighborhood through cultural channels to form and train an active
youth committee.





Key Responsibilities:

The Youth Outreach Worker
between the age 19-24 from the Bengali community with communication skills in
Bangla (and other south Asian language-optional) and English would be responsible
for organizing Bangladeshi as well as South Asian youth at risk who are living
in and around the Crescent Town areas, and experiencing crisis in dealing
issues in the family, school and community to refocus them with productive
activities and form a Youth Peer Cabinet and provide necessary guidance,
orientation and support.

start-up of the project in creating a base inventory of newcomer youths and
hard-to-reach group living in the catchments areas with assistance and guidance
from the Program Coordinator

engage newcomer residents including youths in the neighborhood and in schools,
community centers and other places to help develop a Youth Peer Cabinet

<!--[endif]-->Provide constant
guidance to the Youth Peer Cabinet in facilitating a
specified number of activities

<!--[if !supportLists]-->§
<!--[endif]-->Actively assist the
Youth peer cabinet to piloting a culturally appropriate volunteer mentorship
program for underserved youth ages 11-24. The Youth Peer Cabinet will thus develop a
community action plan

<!--[endif]-->Organize capacity
building development training for the youths

<!--[if !supportLists]-->§
<!--[endif]-->Develop and distribute
ethnic resource materials

<!--[if !supportLists]-->§
<!--[endif]-->Assist youth through
the Youth Peer Cabinet and volunteers
to organize “Excursion” and a
“Multicultural Talent Show” and thus empower youth

<!--[endif]-->Seek out opportunities
for outreach to clients and other agencies to promote BCS youth programs

<!--[endif]-->Undertake
administrative tasks necessary to support service delivery, and program
reports, such as Preparation of a monthly
report, Record Keeping, Documentation and Data Entry etc.



Qualifications:

<!--[endif]-->Post secondary education or equivalent community
College diploma preferably in Immigration and settlement issues with working
knowledge of newcomers and/or immigrants living in the GTA

<!--[if !supportLists]-->§
<!--[endif]-->Working experience of one year or more with sensitivity
to the issues facing new immigrants youths, elders and hard-to-reach
group, refugees, and other diverse populations, with an in-depth understanding of
immigrant and diversity issues

<!--[endif]-->Familiarity with the social, economic and cultural
conditions of the Bangladeshi as well as other South Asian community of Crescent Town and adjacent areas

<!--[endif]-->Fluency in written and verbal
English and Bangla; other languages (particularly South Asian) considered an
asset

<!--[if !supportLists]-->§
<!--[endif]-->Knowledge of community
resources and services available to newcomers and/or immigrants

<!--[endif]-->Commitment to the
principles of anti-oppression and equity

<!--[if !supportLists]-->§
<!--[endif]-->Demonstrated ability
in group facilitation and community outreach with excellent community relations
and cross-cultural communication skills with ability to grow and nurture
relationships

<!--[endif]-->Strong interpersonal,
and negotiation skills to motivate volunteers and newcomer youths

<!--[endif]-->Ability to prioritize
work and organize it in a systematic manner

accountability and a strong work ethic

Hours and

$ 15/hour,
