Be It Fame Or Shame
Be it fame or shame, that had procured
The arrival of this battlefield report lying beside the chessboard
It seems to have assumed the pose of
An unperturbed bronze letterweight
As calm was that unemotional hand
That grasped the overall situation by arranging the pieces

I was confronting him across the chessboard with perplexity
On the hallucinatory papyrus map gunsmoke of war seemed to be spreading
And the blades flashing under the azure sky
Are just like green snakes sinking and emerging in the bamboo slips
Dare not to look back
In case Mount Tai outside had collapsed in a landslide
Or ferocious enemies were within ten meters
Failure of the heart would precede that of the eyes
But all these
Vicissitudes shut out in the blind zone
Were and would not be heralded by any slightest traces in that face

A simple chess game
Paltered with in discomposure and intolerance
Came to a deadlock finally when my capricious strategies
Are enmeshed among those horizontal and vertical lines
I wasn’t even then able to find a clue from this calmly sitting figure
About the aftermath of that war
