comma 这里是象形，也借用了医学上对一种病症的观察（Sickle cell disease (SCD) ），以 comma 来形容血液在血管内凝结--介于液态与固态之间--成类似 ‘，，，‘ 的形状。

"那些红色的逗点"，或许并不完全表达了作者用 comma 在英文里的全部意思，我的一个猜测。
blood comma 得翻出介于液态与固态之间的语象，起码。

博弈对 comma 一词解释得深，译文要求得高。
我看" that red comma of blood" 倒像是 trout 身上的斑点。
也有人将 trout 译为 “红点鲑鱼“。

谢谢博士. 我以为诗歌中"逗点" 是形状, 鱼鳃边更象. 本来译为"那些血红的逗点", 后来改了.因全句为"血喉, 那些红色的逗点, 还...." 淡了点血腥.少点重复字  包括后句中的"旋涡", 也是水和鱼那种朦胧的视觉......
或改为:切喉, 那些血红的逗点, 还....
血红比红色增加了流动感? |

对不住（again), 我想我被自己误导了，我上面的看来是完全错误，错在不该和 blood comma 联想。以语法来看
Cut-throat,
（that red comma of blood, and the curl of thin water,
the elemental body, ）
eating the eggs and larvae of insects
swept down from the banks high in the hills behind him.
中间三个名词片语实际上是（）前的 主词 “Cut-throat“ 对等延伸，前两个把 在水面上的动作形象化了（各位看法如何？）。我让 SCD 及分行给骗了，也怪自己一时大意。这三个名词片语说的都是cutthroat 这种 trout的另外几个表达以增加形象。‘and' 出现在中间而非第三个，表示形象形容在前两个结束。希望这样没错（或许原作只是简单的说鱼说水，而非说动作（red comma for trout, blood for stream; curl is formed by their movement on the thin water, if this is the case, then these imagery could relate to subsequent text "remembering how he ..." and "the blood of angels in a choir of water", then borrowing metaphor from SCD 's sticky concept makes sense again) 我又过读了？怎么看着简单，却也开始迷糊了？
Identification Characteristics:
* Head blunt, jaw long - extends past eye
* Small black spots on head & body extending well below lateral line, and on all fins
* Red to yellow streaks on underside of jaw
* Faint to no red on sides of spawning fish
* Length up to 30 inches

CUT-THROAT
By Patrick Lane
A creek, brown water thick with spring run-off, and the trout
in the riffles come up out of the deep waters to feed. Cut-throat,
that red comma of blood, and the curl of thin water,
the elemental body, eating the eggs and larvae of insects
swept down from the banks high in the hills behind him.
When he was young he had read of a golden ring
found in the belly of a fish and standing there, so many years
later, remembering how he had thrown his wedding ring
into the same lake, he thought...what? That happiness eludes us
when we apprehend it, that the fallen world is the peculiar dialect
of the heart, that a ring flung out upon the waters will return
wearing the blood of angels in a choir of water? The story
is the old story and the young, knowing it for the first time,
are made alive by its telling. He had fished there once, long before,
with his young wife and their first child. He had turned only once
and saw her pick up the baby and walk away into the willows,
her body and the body of his child going away from him into the shade.
It is how the high waters talk to us in spring, how we cast out
with every hope imaginable, catching nothing, and casting again,
the line falling upon the waters and everything below the surface
sinking deeper, a silence waiting beyond the riffles of the creek
where it meets the lake, the good food come down from the hills.
