Moments of Small Delight
2011-05-19 18:29:56
Suddenly, tulips thrust their hands
through layers of dry leaves that blanketed
their bulbs over the long winter.
Rabbits and squirrels start to frequent
awakened gardens, and deer wander around your
cul-de-sac on a quiet moonlit night.
Waters and sky, every creature’s territory.
Ducks, loons and cranes inhabit the same pond -
echoes of calls in the free-fly air.
What a cheerful cry you\'ve released
after a burnt ceiling light-bulb, long-neglected,
is replaced with an energy-saver.
Then the daily-changing gas price drops,
no matter how slightly, like a snowflake
on a stove. But ten cents is ten cents.
My bones cracking, ligament stiffening,
thanks for Taiji, I can still bend down
with my legs straight to touch my toes.
A stone so admired in a garden
is but hauled from the field. Dandelions
come to the table served as a salad.
What magic does it create that we\'re able
to see and that the things can be seen.
