Settlement Assistance & Family Support Services (SAFSS) requires Board of Directors.
SAFSS is a non-profit, charitable community based organization that offers linguistically and culturally appropriate services to diverse communities. Their mission is to assist, educate and empower newcomers, women, seniors, youth, children and the families in their integration process to improve their quality of life, realize their fullest potential and become contributing members of the Canadian society.
SAFSS Board members govern this organization through policies in place or to be created and they are not involved in routine operational activities. They serve in a volunteer capacity without remuneration or profit. Board members must commit to and understand the mission, vision, values, policies, programs and services.
SAFSS is currently seeking applications for some vacant positions of which two members should be in the age group of 18-24 and at least one member from the corporate sector. Interested candidates should have the background and skills in one or more of the following areas: fundraising, human resources and policy development, finance/accounting, minutes-taking/secretarial duties, media/public relations and community/youth engagement.
All applicants will be screened by Nomination Committee and the successful candidates will be finally elected in the SAFSS’ Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled to be held in the month of October 2011.
Qualifications:
•Be formally a member of SAFSS
•Have experience and knowledge of working with community based non-profit organizations
•Possess any of the following special skills e.g. fundraising, human resources and policy development, finance/accounting, minutes-taking/secretarial duties, media/public relations and community/youth engagement
Commitment and Duties:
•Normally a two-year term commitment to serve on the Board with a maximum of three terms or six years in total.
•Attend board meetings, usually 8 to 10 meetings in a year and attend Sub- committee meetings as and when required.
•To develop, implement and monitor policies for the organization.
•To work in the best interest of SAFSS in order to achieve its vision, mission and goals
