Business and Employment Information Fair by three-level Governments

Welcome CPWC Members and Community Friends joining

Business and Employment Information Fair for New Canadians on Saturday will be held on April 18, 2009 at Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive, Scarborough, Ontario. The information fair will provide information sessions on various topics for new immigrants, Canadians, new importers and exporters. Numerous information booths will also be stationed from various government agencies and community groups. The fair will run from 10AM to 5:30PM. For more details, please see flyers both Chinese Simplified or Traditional and English.

Through this team effort of the various governments, new immigrants would be able to attend the following workshops provided from Canada Border Services Agency, Canada Food Inspection Agency, Health Canada, Canada Revenue Agency, Industry Canada, Canada-Ontario Business Service, Toronto Enterprise, Environment Canada – Wildlife Enforcement, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Toronto Police Community Mobilization Unit. In addition, fifteen non-profit organizations will be setting up information booths to introduce about their services and programs to the community.

This event will allow immigrants free access to a variety of necessary resources, information and services concerning business and employment, Canadian culture and financial assistance. In addition, practical support would be offered to meet challenges that newcomers may encounter during the immigration and settlement process (e.g. orientation to the Canadian job market, employment training programs, education, ESL, etc).

Speakers from all three-level of federal, provincial and municipal governments will introduce their services provided. We are expecting between 300-500 participants at this event. The seminars will be held simultaneously and focus on:

· Business

· Employment

· Government social benefits

· Business planning

· Employment opportunities

· How to import goods into or export goods from Canada and other government department requirements

· Financial assistance opportunities from the Ontario government

· Federal funding opportunities

· Understanding the education system

· Retraining for the job market

· Meeting credential requirements
