ACTION FOR NEIGHBOURHOOD CHANGE
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORKER
North York Community House is seeking an Action for Neighbourhood Change Community Engagement Worker to work with community residents and agencies and other stakeholders to explore important local issues and develop organized, positive responses. The Action for Neighbourhood Change (ANC) two-year project is designed to engage community members in neighbourhood building in the Lawrence Heights area.
Major Responsibilities
As part of the Action for Neighbourhood Change team:
• Develop and maintain effective relationships and liaisons with community residents, partner organizations, and other organizations in the community
• Facilitate community meetings with residents, partner organizations, and other stakeholders to identify priorities in the community and strategies for action
• Engage, mobilize and support residents in developing and carrying out a community action plan
• Develop and conduct training with neighbourhood leaders
• Develop and coordinate the project’s publicity and outreach strategy
• Work with all stakeholders to develop design and carry out a project evaluation
• Assist in the preparation of reports for the agency, stakeholders and funders as required
• Conduct research; collect data; participate in the ongoing evaluation process
• Assist residents in developing appropriate governance structures.
Qualifications
• Minimum of 2 years community development/community engagement experience in a nonprofit organization
• Post-secondary degree in community development from a recognized institution
• Demonstrated skills and experience in working in multi-racial, low-income and marginalized communities and in effectively using community development principles and strategies
• Excellent outreach, community engagement and facilitation skills
• Experience with research and data collection
• Experience working with diverse stakeholders in the community
• Excellent interpersonal, planning, administrative and problem-solving skills
• Good computer skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
• Second language (particularly Mandarin, Vietnamese, Tamil) an asset
The annual salary for this position is $ 41,057 to $46,169 depending on qualifications. This is a full-time (35 hours per week) contract until September 30th, 2008. Some evening and weekend work will be required.
