联邦拨款1,040万元 助新移民安居就业

联邦移民部长范茵丽(Diane Finley)昨天在多伦多宣布,未来两年内,移民部将拨款1,040万元,资助约克区7间移民服务机构为新移民提供安居和融入服务。7间移民服务机构包括COSTI移民服务中心、华咨处、约克区天主教社区服务中心、就业技能和犹太移民援助服务中心等。

范茵丽表示,近年来,选择约克区安家落户的新移民人数持续增长,该笔拨款将使9,700名新移民从中受益,主要服务包括:英语培训、寻找工作和转介服务等,该拨款为联邦与安省政府移民协议的一部分。根据该移民协议,联邦政府在5年内向安省提供总额为9.2亿元的拨款,用于新移民的安居服务和语言培训。华咨处行政总监梅伟思昨天在接受采访时表示,华咨处获得的经费将用于为新移民提供传统的移民安居和融入服务,同时华咨处计划于今秋在万锦市开设第一个青少年中心,为18岁至24岁的新移民青年提供英语培训、为13岁至18岁的新移民青少年提供社区融入培训。
