一字倾城

西湖凉亭间,白须老者正在测字。青年
衣衫陈旧,略有困窘之色,上前作揖
说:先生,我想看前程。老者
在砚台上研墨,双眼微闭,悠然说道:
报上字来。青年抬眼眺望,这凉亭如白鹭

栖在湖中央,烟水蒙蒙,沾在衣襟
成了淡翡翠色,便提起笔,写下一个
“雨”字。雨是“有雪无山”,皑皑冬日虽苦,
多年寒窗之后,肉落骨崛,书尽才高,
犹积雪丰而寒山瘦,水影重而石刃衰,便是你
出头之日。青年清奇的面孔,浮起
淡淡一丝微笑,将信将疑地说:先生,那要等到
何年何月呢?老者捋着长须:“你来
再写一个字。”青年思忖,晨光清泠,鸟音应答,
最是诗意玲珑,便又写了一个“晓”字。
老者拍案惊道:市井竟有如此奇人!左有金乌坐镇,
右有上古之帝,安能不富贵?于是二人

斟酒对饮,吟诗作和,直到黄昏。临走前
年青请老者赠锦囊之策,老者沉思片刻
写下一个“荷”字。多年后,青年
蟒袍玉带,回乡省亲,去寻老者
已无踪迹。有人说“荷”便是
“可人之花”,锦绣文章,秀气生发,
如桃李芳菲,自然倾倒天下
一枝独秀。
