西蒙·波娃，1908年1月9日生于巴黎。幼年在枯燥闭锁的家庭环境中度过。1925年考入索邦大学攻读哲学，后结识了存在主义大师萨特，并成为他的终生伴侣。
1943年，她的《女宾客》一书面世，受到读者的喜爱，当年被提名为法国龚古尔文学奖。从此，她走上了专业作家之路。1949年，她的《第二性》出版，褒贬各半，但获得了世界承认。她的长篇小说《名士风流》(1954) 获得法国龚古尔文学奖。
1955年9月，萨特和波娃曾来中国访问，写了《长征》一书。
1986年4月14日逝世。
Simone Lucie Ernestine Marie Bertrand de Beauvoir, called Simone de Beauvoir (French pronunciation: [simɔn də boˈvwaʁ]; January 9, 1908 – April 14, 1986), was a French writer, existentialist philosopher, feminist, Marxist, Maoist and social theorist. She wrote novels, monographs on philosophy, politics, and social issues, essays, biographies, and an autobiography in several volumes. She is now best known for her metaphysical novels, including She Came to Stay and The Mandarins, and for her 1949 treatise The Second Sex, a detailed analysis of women's oppression and a foundational tract of contemporary feminism. She is also noted for her lifelong polyamorous relationship with Jean-Paul Sartre.
