　　游仙诗是道教诗词的一种体式。就其本义而言，这指的是歌咏仙人漫游之情的诗。其体裁多为五言，句数或十句，或十二句，或十六句不等。关于游仙诗的类型，前人曾做过种种划分：或从作者思想倾向出发，以富贵者而游仙，为游仙诗之正体，以坎坷者而游仙，为游仙诗之变体；或从表现形式出发，以作者同神仙共游为古体，作者不在内，仅神仙自游为近体。
　　游仙诗源于汉代以前的歌赋。早在《楚辞》中已有抒写仙人轻举登霞的篇章。如《远游》篇，将古老仙话传说诗歌化，通过"游"的描写以表现逍遥世界，抒发内心的忧思情绪，初具游仙诗的雏形。到了秦朝，始皇帝好神仙，曾"使博士为《仙真人诗》，及行所游天下，传令乐人歌弦之"。《仙真人诗》的出现，反映了当时求仙空气的浓厚。继此之後，汉乐府之中，亦有反映神仙思想的作品，如十九首郊庙歌中的《日出入》、《天马》都表达了畅游太空的理想。
　　不过，作为一种成熟的体裁，游仙诗的流行则是汉代以後的事。魏晋阶段，不仅道人创作游仙诗，文人亦相继创作游仙诗，蔚然成一代诗风，故我国第一部文学作品选集――梁朝萧统所编《文选》列"游仙"为文学体裁之一。刘勰在《文心雕龙》中对游仙诗有专门的评说，至于钟嵘的《诗品》就更加细致地品评郭璞等人的作品风格。魏晋南北朝以後，尽管游仙诗不像此前那样兴盛，但作此等诗歌者依然大有人在。像白居易、李贺等人仍颇具游仙之遗风。
　　游仙诗在思想上往往表现出超越世俗社会局限的强烈愿望；在艺术上，游仙诗想象奇特，善于运用夸张、拟人、象征等多种修辞手法；而道家神仙典故的运用，则使游仙诗更具备浪漫的色调。
　　游仙诗的渊源可以上溯到先秦。游仙诗内容向有两种不同倾向，一种纯写求仙长生之意。另一种则是愤世嫉俗之言。
　　郭璞的游仙诗兼具上述两种内容。一类是"坎（）咏怀，非列仙之趣也。" 虽有游仙之名，实则是借遗世之志发泄对现实社会的不满。
　　另一类内容，则是在承继传统上求仙长生之主题，以高蹈轻举、服食采药为主旨。 郭璞的游仙诗感情真实，坎（）咏怀，与东晋辞意夷泰的诗风殊非同道。另外，郭诗情采斐然，描写形象生动，色泽丰富，也与平典似道德论之玄言诗风大异其趣。
